TJ April 18, 2012 (Sifu Q&A)

A conversation with Sifu (ongoing):

Sifu,
got to finish the class from the other day... definitely the big toe energy became more than just he big toe/saggital, seemed to have 3 dimensions of its own. Now, a question i have is the dropping song down the front with the constant smile initiates the up the back, it feels like it starts its ascent before the heel ends, is this correct or am i leaning?
also, we release deep to the organs going down, i felt that this transition from front to back was along the frontal half-line, is this so? does it even cut the central channel in half (frontally)?
i believe its gonna take a good bit more time to keep these things balanced, catch it for moments then one side does more (front or back that is), when its right, does it feel like the yin is resting in the yang? like a hammock?
Patrick

  • everything is happening all the time, so you can feel the up and the down at any time, however, you must complete circles. in tis case, the circuit around the heel on the horizontal plane. just keep training and feeling and opening up mentally and physically. not sure what you mean by a hammock. can you explain more?

  • Yes.  Well, I didn't do a good job being clear.  I should have written that the down the front dropping and the rising up the back side energies happen simultaneously, its not a sequential thing (just in written word it is).  So basically  upon the drop, the backside shoots up and out and around.  You mention it wrapping around the heel as it comes up... but for me its feeling a little bit like it comes up before completing an entire circle around the heel, or in other words it doesn't reach the inside of the heel.  Does this mean I'm leaning?  Also, what I meant by 'hammock' is that it sort of feels like the yin tissues, etc. are dissolving and softening and resting in the yang surfaces and tissues, almost like if I were in a vertical hammock... like the yang surfaces were a vertical hammock that the yin rest upon.  Like the yang sort of supports, envelopes and encases the yin... its a bit wrapping, like its an exoskeleton or a shell.  Does this sound at all familiar?
Also, when doing the tcc structure and song this weekend it was as if the entire body was empty and resting on the ground.  So... with what I'm describing above, its like the body isn't resting on the ground, its resting on itself, or maybe on the yang.  The 'substantiality' seems more spread to the whole body and the movement seems les sequential like in the tcc stuff.  For instance, this weekend what was being taught was movement like this....:  soften, empty, release, sink, rebound off the ground, sinking more as the body folds and sinks and turns, etc.   What I'm feeling from what I've written in regards to our way and what I'm trying to describe, the movement seems more like...:  the whole body goes at the same time, or, the yin releases and the yang expands and all the joints move together, the shape turns or moves as a unit instead of coming up the body like 'ground, legs, waist, center, arms, etc.'.  It's more like... yin softens and yang wraps.  I guess what I'm saying is that instead of coming from one point and ending up at another... its more like there is no start or stop points, it all just moves.????
