Old References and Exploring the Terminology.

Since last Sunday's class I have been looking at  'why', when I step in San Ti Shi when using the stick, I more often and not end up in 'scissors' and not in San Ti Shi.

When experimenting with standing and stillness pre-movement the into movement, the 'slack' and 'backlash' terminology utility became apparent and I used this as an object of inquiry. I found, yet again, I was bringing in an old reference of 'when it feels optimal to move'. When I set myself up with the standing and stillness instructions it's as if I don't want to move and am looking for some familiar 'readyness' which I then supply by letting the slack back out a little and as I result I end up scissoring. So I think I need to work away and 'just moving' to build a new reference.

The ideas of 'Slack' and 'Backlash' are making a lot more sense and have become really interesting checks so I want to check my understanding of the use of those terms within  the system:

  • My experiential based understanding suggests to me that foot couple, cavities and raise diaphragm, elbows-rib connection, pull excess 'slack' out of the system.
  • 'Anchor sacrum' and the 'transverse couple' are to do with 'backlash' where the structure is kind of being 'pre loaded' before the movement to take more load in San Ti Shi.

Is this on the right track?
