Simplicity over complexity.

I have a good friend who has no grid for understanding the principles of internal martial arts because his back ground is in tae kwon do. I have nearly no grid for them and I have a background in the internal martial arts! : )

When I was describing the 13 points to him he said "Wow, that sounds really complicated."  It does sound complicated. Then, I was reading a post of Patrick's where he was describing what it felt like when his brother was pushing against him and he would do fajin and bounce his brother away. He said that it seemed as though the point of contact and the point on his foot where the pressure was going to felt like the same point and his body seemed to disappear. Reading, having not yet experienced it, lets me understand that what we are doing, though it is detailed and intricate, is actually a matter of simplification. Patrick was unaware of the space between where he was being pushed and where he was pushing on the floor. He had simplified everything until he didnt have to think about moving here or doing this or that...he was just present and aware and all that was there was the point of contact and the floor. Refinement should lead us to simplicty and not greater complexity.
