Hello Monkey Mind, let's count breaths

After my talk with Sifu, I am dialing things back with my business and my practice and starting at week 1. I think things will go much smoother if I wait until I actually have closed down my studio, but I decided to go ahead and start now. I've been keeping a separate notebook from the one I normally use to scribble down notes--mainly the 13 points. I want to have them memorized, and the only way I know how is to do the same thing I did in bootcamp with the 11 general orders of a sentry-- I would copy them before bed until I reached the point when I could write them from memory.

Real depth in this material. Wow!

As someone who has been on the fringes of internal martial arts for many years, mainly because I have had friends who were martial arts journalsists or high level internal martial artists themselves, I have had the good fortune to be around a number of so called masters of internal martial arts, and seen them teach and explain their material.

Articular Capsule and Joint Proprioception

Sifu, I've been doing some research into haptics lately and I'm beginning to appreciate more and more the role proprioception might play in "object shape perception" through the sense of touch.

I was wondering if you have any information on this subject, off the top of your head, that might be helpful in my investigations along these lines (please don't spend too much of your time on this - I will keep looking myself - at this point it is nothing more than a personal curiosity).

What's the Purpose of It All?

Back in February, at the conclusion of the AZ Retreat, Sifu and I went out for ice cream and discussed a number of things. One of the things I asked him about was his opinion regarding the videos about "John Chang" and the Mopai school. I'm not sure if I shared this with Sifu, but I have been acquainted with a former Mopai student who spent time studying with Pak John in Indonesia.

25 MAR 13

10:00 wuji standing

waving: sagittal | frontal | horizontal

2:30 waving, :30 walking in figure 8's and then change to a new plane of movement

1 round total of 9:00

rocking 5:00 slowed down, tried noticing strain on joints, but could realy only feel up to the ankle with some consistency.

-- Greg helped me realize that I was actually not on the center of my foot, but already in my heels to start. Still getting used to the feeling of being too far on my toes even though I already feel more relaxed in that position.

Catch the Snake

I wish you all (my fellow students and occasional visitors) Happy New Year of the Snake.

Authentic NeiJia

The UnCarved Block Program is mind-body training system developed by Kelley Graham to help NeiJia students incease mental and physical capacities. Increased capacity leads to deeper insight. Deeper insight enables higher skill. Our curriculum is evidence-based, using neuroscience and neuroanatomy to bring context to the counterintuitive experiences unique to authentic Chinese esoteric practice. Students directly map the esoteric language associated with high-level internal arts to specific physiological sensations.
