27 JUNE 2012

Today I did a little Bitter Pill on my break at work. I could only do 4 rounds. My feet were really hurting, so I cut things short. I think the session last for only 6 minutes? Ashe says I need more work on the Yin suction in my feet to help with some of the pains I've been getting. I change shoes a lot. Ever since I got out of the Navy, I have had trouble finding comfortable shoes. I sometimes wonder if I should just walk around in steel toe & combat boots since those are what have my feet in the condition they are in now.

26 JUN 2012

I kept thinking that today was the 25th, but it is the 26th! I have to wake up early to open the gym. Wednesdays are my long shift days.

24 JUN 2012

I think my entry from a few days ago may have created some confusion. I think a quick story may help to clear things up.

This actually happened outside the really nice library in downtown Phoenix. I gave some spare change to a homeless man. He asked my name, and I told him that my name is Prince. His face straightened, and he looked me in the eye. He says," Prince, you're supposed to be a teacher."

the bones may rise the bones may sink..

"The bones may rise the bones may sink, but the meat stays sunk." I'm not getting that. When I meditate and I'm breathing in & out, there are two ways that I know to breathe. One is abdominal breathing where the stomach goes in and out, the other is diaphragmatic breathing where the stomach does not go in and out as the attention is more on the diaphragm but the chest tends to rise and fall a little. Should I be doing one of these types of breathing, something else altogether or is it unimportant? What bones are supposed to be rising? What meat is supposed to be sinking?

23 JUN 2012

Training went well today at the Downtown YMCA. I was pretty wiped out by the end, though. I've been eating too much junk & fast food this week-- which is really just more junk. I want to push myself to get more green vegetables next week. I think it will help me as far as feeling more energized and less fatigued by the middle of the day.

22 JUN 2012

I could rant about some more stuff on my mind, but I'm really tired today. I'm a little upset that so much "stuff" was going on that I did not really get to workout at all. This week I had started a routine of P90X and Tai Cheng. I started doing P90X because my friend, April, was wanting do it. I figured I would do it along with her to try to coach her. Also I have not completed P90X in 3 attempts!

21 Jun 2012

I have been slacking on these entries ever since I hurt my right calf muscle last week. I had been feeling like my calves were getting a real workout from my attempted "bear" standing last week while really focusing on wrapping the big toe. My injury did not come from my standing practice, but while training a client. I had her performing 20 kettelbell swings followed by a shuttle run continuously for 20 minutes. Her workout partners left her hanging, so she asked if I would do that portion of the workout with her.

Wed., June 20, 2012:
Couldn't be more excited about so many new entries and all the recent blogging!! THis is what this place was meant for... it's more helpful than you can possibly know to have your fellow practitioners' thoughts there for you to read and relate to. And as I said already, not just for newer folks but for all of us....there's never 'been there done that' in my experience, there's always something more, something new at every level, even stage1 week 1 brings new stuff each time i do it.

2 weeks in

It is my 2nd week practicing and I am definitely enjoying it, but I also have that feeling that you have when you start a new job and don't know what you're doing. Like if I was learning how to dance online instead of in-person. I feel like I'm doing some things wrong, but it's ok. My body is not that sensitive, so for instance when doing the rocking exercise I only feel tension in the fronts of my thighs. I don't feel it all the way up to my neck. Doing the North, South, East, West exercise I don't feel the tension all throughout my body, I only feel it in the forearms.

Fullness while breathing

Sorry I haven't posted for while. Very busy with school. While seated, when I inhale I feel full ness go through my body and it goes on the exhale. Like the body is inflating and deflating. In the foot it is strongest into the big toe. Pretty interesting. Is that a good sign?

Less Pain

Hello there!

Although I have been having a go at most of the exercises on the videos, I have put most of my time into the Bitter Pill.

I have always found standing meditation very difficult. I have always had tight/stiff muscles & within minutes of standing, I can be in great pain, especially the neck & upper back area.

12 JUN 2012

Last night I did 36 minutes of bear standing with a movie playing, "The Reign of Assassins." I am going to make an effort to not watch movies while I do bear standing, but I may try to do some wiki standing when I watch movies. I think it would be much more beneficial than lounging around, unless I really need to rest & relax.

11 JUN 2012

I was working on some exercise videos for my YouTube channel yesterday and did not get to post a new entry.

I crashed after eating on Saturday afternoon and slept for a good 2 hours. I did not do any Bitter Pill at all, but I did 30 minutes of bear standing during halftime and the 3rd quarter of the Miami Heat/Boston Celtics game 7.

If it is okay, I would like to make this a bit more than just a "training blog." If you have not heard, some comments I made in a review about a push hands seminar that I attended has created a bit of a stir. Maybe I should have shared my review directly with the intended audience, but it's whatever at this point. If people wish to read my thoughts, then so be it. I am going to make a strong effort to record every detail of my training from this point on...

Day 2

Namaste to all. Today I practiced along with the week 1 video. Trying to absorb the exercises well enough to be able to practice without the video. I find the "swallowing the bitter pill" exercise very relaxing and enjoyable. One question though, how many reps should be done when you are practicing? I know that with the standing meditation exercise 2 minutes is the minimum and 20 is the maximum. So my question is with swallowing the bitter pill what is the minimum and maximum number of reps or does it matter? Peace & love.
