Spinal Tube

I don't know if I slept funny or if this is related to the training. When I have been dong the back slaps the last few days when I bend and move the center line of the chest to do the first backslap I have been feeling this thing in my back. If I imagine that my spine is inside a tube I could feel the left side of the tube near the lower ribs. It's not a discomfort but I just notice some kind of stretching tube feeling. I think I was feeling it on the right side on a different day but today it is  present on the left side.

Spreading of the back

We have been talking about how when doing the transverse couple there should be a feeling of spreading in the back. I've been having trouble feeling that sensation and I've felt that when learning the foot couple and the transverse couple in the waist it helps to be able to mentally visualize or have some idea about what is causing the sensations to occur.

Rib Tensions

Earlier on when I started the standing I would notice that I often could feel tension in my back near the ribs on the left hand side. After some time I stopped noticing that tension or it went away. Last night after I had done some of the warmups and was practicing the standing I could feel tension in that area again but now it felt as if it was underneath the ribs and it felt more like it was maybe tension in the fascia or something that was wrapping around that part of the diaphragm.

transverse couple / U / back of the diaphragm

The other day I when I was practicing I was feeling what i think i the back fo the diaphragm pretty clearly. When I was working on feeling the transverse couple I was slightly adjusting the tilt of my hips. When I would do this it felt like the transverse couple would pull on the back of the diaphragm. I didn't necessarily remember feeling a strip down the back but is this what the U should start to feel like, i.e. when we move one part of the U the other parts move as well?

UCB - Softness Training and Elasticity

bone cross section

When separating the bones and the meat, finding the intrinsic stillness of bone is a big leap. What's next? It's simple, bones are hard, meat is soft. Why then can the bones feel soft?

Ribs after goat punches

Tonight after I did the goat punches and then I did my standing, I was trying to look for the transverse couple. But instead instead I actually felt a flat stretching feeling at the back where the bottom of the ribs are located. I thought when we first did the stillness exercise the stillness was supposed to be around the front of the bottom of the ribs. Is this stretch of the back of the ribs just something to notice or is this at all related to the stillness and/or the transverse couple?

Cold tolerance

A few years Sifu was telling me about cold tolerance and how it relates to our training. I can't remember everything he said. Personally, probably for unrelated reasons, I have poor cold tolerance. Less than a minute if exposure to a cold wind can cause me to go into shivers. This is obviously the wrong direction of development. Any pointers on what I'm doing wrong and how to address it?

Standing Wrap Up

Hmm... I kind of forgot exactly what I was supposed to journal about but we just wrapped up doing the standing mental model and are moving onto stillness.

My foot!

I was training Standing and working on the foot couple. I activated the foot couple and the whole foot stretches out. As usual, during the short amount of time I can tolerate Standing I could feel the corrections to my foot and ankle alignments that happened and it produced the biggest feeling of stretch I've felt in my foot. It was along the outside edge of my right foot. My left foot and ankle need a lot more work than my right. This stretch was bordering on painful and I could feel my mind trying to avoid that pain and go away from it. I calmed myself and released into it.
