Pelvis Twisting

In this morning's practice I noticed something new that had been outside of my awareness.

As I have posted before, my legs feel different to each other, with the left leg feeling less 'connected' and less 'supportive' than my right.

I began to wonder that maybe my right leg was more connected due me preferentially using it as weight bearing and maybe I was standing more on one leg than the other but not noticing it.

Fundamentals and 'no style' approach

Just a quick comment on how much I am appreciating an approach that is free from limitations of any one particular style but which at the same time provides the fundamentals for success in any style.

There are pearls even in what appear to be basic conditioning practice.

For example I am just noticing how 'Scissors' would have been a really good set up prior to learning any form or weapons sets, and would have made making some movements more intuitive due to having already practiced body connection, extension and range of motion.

More Foot Couple and Cavity Explorations.

Wks 4-7:

I have been exploring the effect of looking at, sensing, and exploring the foot couple. My experience has moved from sensing the foot as a passive object to experiencing it as a dynamic interplay of forces.

Continuing The Standing Practice following videos 2-4

Standing
In Standing I’ve noticed a tension in my left hip and that side can’t ‘tense’ up as much as the right side, so I’ve been noticing that and just taking time throughout the day to do small sections of standing to keep that noticing active and it’s begun to change - a couple of times ‘my leg has dropped down out of my left hip’ then it seems to go back to what it’s used to but it’s different.

Experience of Week One of Standing Practice

I looked at videos 1 and  2  but focused my practice on the contents of Video 1.

The Backstop: When I began to experience what I think of as "the backstop," it felt a bit like the strong support my heavy winter mountain boots give up the heel/Achilles area, below the calf. As the week went on, my sense of this area became clearer. By including an awareness of it as a live, online part of the structure, the support I got from my floor/feet/legs improved.

Hi, sifu. I hope everything is going well. I have an adjacent question for you? Between your architecture and martial training I'm sure that physics is at least interesting.

Stillness

I am making this training manual public. Resistance requires a free mind. A free mind requires a specific kind of quiet. This quiet is not imposed by your iron will to suppress uncooperative thoughts. This natural quiet arises from within. I call this process 'Discovering Intrinsic Stillness'.

Requirements for success are:
